Episode 6 of Moon Knight finally introduced the character of Jake Lockley. What costume will he get and how will it be different from Marc and Steven?
Warning: Spoilers for moon knight episode 6
Moon Knight Jake Lockley could get his own unique costume when the character makes his MCU return. After setting him up in previous episodes, the Disney+ series officially unveiled the titular superhero’s third Quirk in the season finale’s post-credits scene. The mysterious character revealed himself as Khonshu’s secret ally against evil.
Although this is the first mention of Jake Lockley on the show, his presence in the MCU wasn’t entirely unexpected. The murders for which Steven denied responsibility and the second sarcophagus in moon knight Episode 4 was strong hints of a third personality sharing Marc’s body. This fit the comics, given that Marc, Steven, and Jake were his original Quirks. So far, not much has been revealed about his backstory, but it’s already become apparent that he’s Moon Knight’s most violent personality. This is also the case with the comic book version, which was depicted as a taxi driver with a New York accent.
Since Marc and Steven are able to manifest their own Moon Knight suits, it stands to reason that Jake shares this ability. For this reason, it is worth considering what her costume will look like. The comics don’t provide a straight answer since Moon Knight’s alters Steven and Jack didn’t get their own individual costumes. However, Moon Knight’s comic book story should give Marvel plenty of options for Jake’s MCU look, much like he used Mr. Knight’s design for Steven. Arguably the strongest candidates for his suit are the armored look of 2010s Earth-X and Ultimate, simply due to how different they are from the other two suits. Due to how the black colors would represent the dark nature of Jake Lockley, the armored designs associated with revivals like Marvel now! And All new all different might be the best solution.
The decision to use Mr. Knight as Steven’s costume indicates that Marvel’s intent was to ensure that, like Steven and Marc’s personalities, their costumes would be inherently different from the other two. Therefore it is logical that moon knight will apply the same idea to Jake, especially since Moon Knight has positioned him as a much darker and more violent character. To that end, it’s likely Marvel will look to avoid any costume that resembles her classic white outfit. Since this was the main inspiration for Marc Moon Knight’s costume, giving Jake one of his costumes from the older comics would create too many similarities to what the MCU has used before.
Going for the aforementioned black and white armored look or maybe even the Earth X or Ultimate designs for Jake Lockley, moon knight season 2 — or whatever its next MCU outing — can continue to demonstrate the stark differences between the hero’s three Quirks. And based on how Jake seemingly defeated Arthur Harrow when Steven and Marc couldn’t, his version of Moon Knight might prove to be the most powerful of them all.
