Tacotel Limited, a subsidiary of Ibistek, an import and export cargo handler at Takoradi Port in the Western Region, held its 5and Anniversary celebration to highlight its successes accumulated over the years in the marine industry.

The anniversary was heralded by a donation to the Twin City Special School, where the company donated items worth over GHc10,000 for school upkeep, and then organized a health screening for all staff, examining their eyes, blood pressure and sugar levels. .

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Felix Nana Sackey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tacotel, said that although the company is an indigenous organization with ambition for success, it was not simply created to make money, but instead began to make a difference.

“We really didn’t know how it was going to be, but we had a dream, and that dream has become our vision, which is to be a strong leader in the shipping and logistics industry in Ghana and Africa. of the West,” he said. .

Dr Sackey explained that in the company’s five years of operation it had recorded ‘no casualties’ and ‘no theft or looting’ and had also operated a ‘safe operating environment’ using its attitude of high compliance and best practices in health, safety, security and environmental requirements for port operations.

According to him, the company’s well-trained officers who had met the demands of the industry since its inception were the first to operate an inland container depot in Takoradi.

Dr. Sackey said that although the COVID-19 pandemic has caused industries and countries a lot of pain, they have been able to walk through it with caution and thus achieved a 37% increase in exports and a 6% increase in imports between 2020 and 2021.

He said the company’s goal is to develop a safe and prosperous, people-centered business environment for conducive maritime commerce with continuous service to customers, mixed with quality, coupled with prompt delivery, passionate approach effectiveness and efficiency in all its operations. .

He maintained that Tacotel would continue to respect the interests of all stakeholders, employees, customers, suppliers and the community at large and would actively explore opportunities to improve the environment and contribute to the well-being of the communities in which he operates.

He therefore thanked the dedicated team of staff in all different departments who believed in the vision and therefore worked diligently to contribute to the well-being and success of Tacotel.

Dr. Sackey noted that a satisfied customer was the best business strategy and would therefore always seek to put customer needs and expectations first, as he was committed to continuously improving service delivery through focused customer service. and higher and fostering strong working relationships. with its stakeholders.

He said the company has quickly gained national, regional and global attention due to the competitive standards it brings to the maritime, logistics and transport industry in Ghana and South Africa. the West.

The CEO added that Tacotel therefore aims to move into a leadership position in delivering quality service with integrity and added value through its transformational approach and working technology.

Mr. Richmond Adjei Appiah, Terminal Manager of Tacotel, mentioned some challenges faced by the company early on and said that despite the challenges, they have already worked on around 200,000 TEUs over a period of five years with many countless successes.

“We have witnessed situations where we tried to sell to a customer and asked the customer to ship via Takoradi port and the first thing he does is calculate or calculate the cost of freight, the cost of transit delays upon arrival of its container, referring to the unavailability of the truck to transport the containers to and from the hinterland, telling you that the ship’s stopovers at Takoradi are not regular and therefore prefer another port…” he said.

He therefore deemed the theme chosen for the anniversary, “Beyond all limits: always serve with passion”, appropriate for the occasion.
