Prepare for warm weather in the Lehigh Valley on Memorial Day and Tuesday.

Monday will be hot as the heat index hits 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is advising people to take safety precautions until Tuesday as the heat index climbs to 94 degrees.

The heat index is a measure of how hot the air temperature will feel to the human body taking into account the relative humidity.

Tuesday’s air temperature will peak at 92 degrees. Relative humidity will hover around 40% in the early afternoon.

The National Weather Service provides tips and reminders on how to beat the heat and stay safe, such as staying hydrated, dressing lightly, and staying in air-conditioned areas.

The NWS also warns never to leave children or pets alone in hot cars. Elderly people and pregnant women are also at increased risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion can include: dizziness, thirst, nausea, profuse sweating and body weakness. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke. A person with heatstroke may become dizzy, confused, or unconscious.

If you think someone has a medical emergency from the heat, give them water, move them to a cool place, and call 911.

After Tuesday, temperatures in the Lehigh Valley will steadily drop and the area could see rain and thunderstorms throughout the week.
