Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], May 27 (ANI): The first rake of export cargo was reported Thursday evening at Dabgram Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Siliguri.
The ICD, which is the primary dry port for national and international freight movement in the region, was developed by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) with support from the Union government.
The port is managed by Pristine Hindustan Infraprojects Private Limited, a logistics service provider.
The company started operations with its first 12-container export rake containing buffalo meat for China to be sent through the port of Kolkata. This port will also facilitate the movement of goods between Sikkim, Bihar, the northeastern states as well as neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Mohammed Alam Khan, Terminal Manager at Pristine Hindustan, said: “Our dream is coming true today. The entire area will be occupied by containers in the coming days. This port will reduce transit time and cost to exporters. also help importers who wish to do business here. “
“Traders who primarily do their business by road can do export and import business by rail through this port. This terminal can also assist tea merchants and traders in this region. They can get empty containers at the port and send tea anywhere through our rail rake facility, ”he added. (ANI)
